Kyrgyzstan Itinerary

From July 18 to 22 and again from August 1 to 10 I will be in Kyrgyzstan. I will spend a lot of time in Bishkek discussing our current research project and setting up for a new research project that was just funded by the Fogarty International Center of NIH (http://www.fic.nih.gov/) along with the NIH SBRP program (http://www-apps.niehs.nih.gov/sbrp/index.cfm). We will spend part of the time at Lake Issyk-Kul, a beautiful lake surrounded by tall mountains. It is the second largest mountain lake in the world (after Lake Titicaca) and is over 120 miles long by 40 miles wide. For that part of the trip I will be staying at a resort hotel midway along the north shore of the lake. We will also be traveling into the mountains south of Bishkek to re-examine sites where we previously collected soil samples, from locations over 3,000 meters high (over 9,000 feet for those of you who are metrically challenged!).
